Rose and Laurel

©Eleanor Fairchild (Truly Carmichael)

Fair grow the leaves of the laurel so green
Fragrant and verdant, their bounty serene.
Sweet bloom the roses, with bright-petaled face,
for love's inspiration, and chivalry's grace.

Slow grows a laurel tree, steady and strong,
Gracing our heraldry, story and song.
Circlet of honor, a crown of sweet bay
To place on an artisan's forehead today

For one such deserving, the wreath has been wrought
To recognize service and skill, she is brought.
Through patience and passion her talent arose
Behold as the Laurel encircles the Rose.
