To Live Thus Shadowed...
by Antonia Santiago da Lagos (Dawn Rummel)
So quietly he sits and holds my hand,
This uninvited guest beside me now.
He looks into my eyes to tell me how
He'll steal away my love to shadowed lands.
His ever-presence focuses each thought
On fear and loneliness, on plans undone.
So dimly do I see the shining sun,
And blurred becomes the life that we had sought.
A life thus shadowed is no life at all.
The heavy days of waiting grow so long,
But live we must, and so we struggle on.
Perhaps, instead, we'll cheat this hanging pall
We'll find in life and love a fervent song
To fill our hearts with joy, till he is gone.
