Sonnet 2 (Adrift)
©2003 Alden Drake (Paul A. Haines)
Adrift upon this splintered deck I lie,
A once proud ship and I her captain brave,
Brought low by wind and wave and stormy sky,
Now little more than flotsam on a wave.
When last I held you close those words I said,
To think of you each day I promised true,
But floating in the sea now nearly dead,
My ship has sunk and so has gone my crew.
The sea has taken all that I hold dear,
Save you my love and thatís enough to know
That while I die I go and do not fear,
That you will live and I now sink below.
I beg you now forgive me when I say
I almost didn't think of you today.
